The belt is very good and there a few reasons not to buy it.
Wearing leather is perfectly ok.
Armory is very slow currently, so I aborted checking your profile and just give some unspecific advice.
You
might want to look at the craftable belts from SSC.
Those are also rather good (and very cheap now that nether vortexes are boe and can be bought with badges or from the AH). It might be a good idea to get a craftable belt from SSC (for SV spec go for the leather one (belt of deep shadows?); for BM spec go for the mail version (belt of the black eagle?)).
By doing this you can spend your badges for the other nice upgrades (most likely you want the bow, ring, breastplate and perhaps legs if you don't already have those. Dory Embrace is also a very nice item if you are BM spec).
And please, don't go away once we have answered all your questions; that would be an investment lost giggles-Hunter FAQ

for raiding wearing leather is perfectly alright, losing a bit of armor is not going to hurt you in the least since almost any damage you take will be an AoE spell of some sortThe small lack of armour should not really make a difference at all. The small change in mana shouldn't really be a problem at all. Just use mana pots and wizard oil for really long boss fights. I think the DPS would be worth it.-Snarf, snarf.
As usual ive been messing around on cheekys (when i should be working) desparately trying to eek out as much dps as i can. It would appear that with a 10 crit gem are a good
step up in dps. (not to mention getting me to within one of the hit cap)

Is it worth sacrificing the armour and intellect? (will the lack of mana cause me problems?)
Do i forget this and wait for when i get 25 more badges (a little less dps and back to eating hit food)
And most importantly am i going to get labelled a Huntard for wearing leather?
